Combating irregularities in national and European public spending
Particular attention is given by the Units in the control activities referred to the health expenditure sector, in which context, the investigations aim at identifying fraudulent conduct which can take place in the ambit of the procurement procedures of goods and services, with reference, for example, to the pharmaceutical expenditure and the purchase of medical devices.
In relation to the public expenditure of European origin, the role of the Corp is decisive in pursuing, within the national system, a really incisive anti-fraud strategy to protect the resources that finance the policies of cohesion and the aid in the agricultural and fishing sector.
The importance of the sector is also confirmed by the project to strengthen cooperation between Member States, which includes the operation of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), which has the task of identifying, prosecuting and bringing to trial the perpetrators of crimes affecting the financial interests of the Union. The Guardia di Finanza, by virtue of its recognised competences and prerogatives and its natural inclination to investigate the most complex economic and financial contexts, is the natural interlocutor of the aforementioned Judicial Authority.
