The international dimension of the Corps
The international dimension of the Corps has recently increased thanks to the assignments of many Officers in the most important Italian diplomatic representations and main supranational organizations.
In the 50th and 60th the Corps took part in international cooperation missions in Eritrea and Somalia and, from 1993 to 1996, Guardia di Finanza naval Units were deployed on the Danube within the UEO Mission, as a consequence of the embargo towards Serbia and Montenegro established by the United Nation.
In 1998, the Corps was involved in the M.A.P.E. (multinational police organization for advice and training), established in Albania by the UEO to support the Albanian Police.
The Guardia di Finanza currently works in Albania as part of the bilateral mission of support for the Albanian Police. Recently, the Corps also promoted support, advice and training for the local police in many countries worldwide (Kosovo, Afghanistan, Haiti and Libya), both in NATO context, as part of the Peace Support Operations (PSO) – under the patronage of international organizations such as ONU and OCSE – and in peacekeeping operations and international cooperation missions promoted by ONU and European Union.
